You mean, besides the obvious fact that anything written by Micro$oft has
absolutely no consideration for efficient use of resources, and frequently delays
things for no apparent reason? Never mind the outright bugs in the code...
Sorry, had to get that one off my chest...
I know you are asking the Exim mailing list, in hopes of finding someone with the
same problem, even though the problem is about 99.999999% likely to be on the
windoze side of things. I hope the mailing list will appreciate that, and not
jump on you for it. Not that Exim users would ever jump on anybody, right? ;)
All that said, I don't have a good answer for you, because I have not encountered
the problem. Except when I have intermittent network problems. So, I suggest
looking at your network traffic level, hardware connections, things of that sort.
One idea would be to use a packet sniffer (or maybe just looking at log files) to
determine if the delay occurs before or after Outlook tries to contact your mail
server. I believe Outlook can be set to log its SMTP activities. If the delay is
occurring during the SMTP dialog (which I doubt), see which side is waiting for
the other to respond to something, and what that something is.
