I'd like to do very bad things to the the so called Imail "engineer" who
came up with that. Out of curiousity, was that option a default or did you
have to turn it on?

I've recently Emailed sales@???, support@??? to tell them
what I thought of their product, and how I tell all their customers that
they are losing Email thanks to their purchase of Imail (also a few words
about the engineer in question needing to be fired)

You could during testing firewall your mail server so that it only accepts
connections from that server.
It's ugly, but you only need to get one message through with debugging
enabled...
