Combine spamassassin with a rbl from spews.osirusoft.com and you'll be in
good shape. I also have a LART list of known spammers and their ISPs
which I routinely block incoming mail. You can get more information from
usenet on news.admin.net-abuse.email.
Here's some log output from SpamAssassin:
2002-05-29 22:35:13 From: "Lou Lum"<hgh8818@???>
Subject: ***** SPAM ***** scott,Wish you looked and felt younger -HGH
X-Spam-Status: Yes, hits=14.7 required=5.0 tests=FROM_ENDS_IN_NUMS,
CLICK_BELOW,HTML_WITH_BGCOLOR,SLIGHTLY_UNSAFE_JAVASCRIPT,NORMAL_HTTP_TO_IP
,CLICK_HERE_LINK,A_HREF_TO_REMOVE,MAILTO_TO_REMOVE,FREQ_SPAM_PHRASE,
CTYPE_JUST_HTML version=2.01 Sender: hgh8818@???
The above mail just got btamail.net.cn and some other domain in my LART
list. I have no guilt about blocking ISP's for their spam-friendliness.
And here's a few reject lines based on RBL and my LART list:
2002-05-30 10:06:09 connection from outmta043.topica.com [64.125.140.239]
refused
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2002-05-30 10:07:08 connection from outmta043.topica.com [64.125.140.239]
refused
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As you may tell, i've got topica.com's domain in my LART list which does
not allow them to send email to anyone in my domain.
