[Exim] working PLAIN authentication?

Hi,

Has anyone got a working plain authentication going with a simple
htpasswd generated type file (username:encrypted-passwd)?

fixed_plain:
        driver = plaintext
        public_name = PLAIN
       server_condition = ${if crypteq{$3}\
                           {${extract{1}{:}{${lookup{$2}lsearch{/etc/exim/auth-users}{$value}}}}\
                           {yes}{no}}
        server_set_id = $2

This is copied out of the Exim book and doesn't appear to work with evolution.

Any working configs that are similar (with or without encrypted
lookups), greatly appreciated.
