thank you for the answeres. in debian the exim.conf is a bit
different. a bit misleading, because there the only part where 'maildir'
is named, is not really the place where it belongs.

whatever this piece in the config should look like this (so if somebody
goes through the list-archives he'll find this message;))

driver = appendfile
group = mail
mode = 0660
mode_fail_narrower = false
envelope_to_add = true
return_path_add = true
#file = /var/spool/mail/${local_part}
maildir_format
