[Exim] Problem with exim 3.34

I've compiled exim 3.34 with mysql.

When i start exim it starts up, but as user gdm. This means that the spool
directory is unavaliable. When setting up configure file with "user = exim"
and "group = exim" the program starts up as root ...

What is the problem. The system is running RedHat 7.2
