This is from my Local/Makefile:

COMPRESS_COMMAND=/usr/bin/gzip
COMPRESS_SUFFIX=gz
ZCAT_COMMAND=/usr/sbin/gunzip

Perhaps I should blame RedHat (spec file for RPM) for using gunzip
instead of zcat?
