Nope, don't do that. What this guy seems to have done is to have just
set untrusted_set_sender in order to let him set the envelope sender
(which exim won't allow you to do normally).

Instead, just set the user he logs in as, as a trusted user
(trusted_users).

Or simply use a mail client that lets him say his smtp server is
localhost.localdomain port 25. Pine can do that for you.

And ideally, set up exim to queue mails when offline and smarthost
through your ISP's mailserver.
