Alexander Sabourenkov has got a set of patches for exim 3.3x (and now
4.02) which let exim use cyrus pwcheck for AUTH.

I have it up and running quite well on my (small personal colo) box. It
works, it hasn't crashed or turned by box into an open relay ... and I
think Alexander is using it in production as well, so he's the guy to
reassure you :)
