When you telnet to port 80, what indication do you have that it
doesn't work? Are you familiar with the HTTP protocol? Mainly what I
know about HTTP is that the *client* is the one to start talking. If
you don't send a request, the server will never send you anything.
Try typing "GET / HTTP/1.0" (no qoutes) followed by two line feeds and
see if you get a response from the web server.

As for the traceroutes, those stars usually aren't good. It means
that you couldn't get anything back from the next host/router. Either
it is down, or it just isn't giving you the ICMP notification that the
packet was dropped (as traceroute intends it to).
