Well I know a way around it - see the patch at

Just set up your alias file as

smof@???: !mxtest@???

As Philip noted, the '!' is not a good escape character because it's
valid in a rfc822 address, so it probably should be something else
(perhaps a '>', indicating 'redirect' ? ). For now it will do fine though
