Thanks for that. I come to Unix from RiscOS - so I am learning as I go
along what is a standard unix concept! Unix instructions take a lot of
foreknowledge for granted!
I don't know how relevant my setup is to other folks here, but since it
may help some, here goes:
The files in the aliases directory exist one for each domain I run. The
file is looked at for emails I send out and for emails sent to me. So if I
have, for instance (as I do for the domain 4qd.co.uk):
electronics: :fail: This email box is closed due to infestation by
spammers.
*: 4qd@???
If I send out an email From: electronics@??? it bounces straight
back to me and when a spam arrives it is returned to sender with the fail
message. This is as documented in Exim's instructions and has enabled me
to close several infested email boxes!
the *: line passes everything else (both ways) and delivers incoming
emails to my shell account for collection.
