message before the .forward file sees it?

Yes, I looked, but I overlooked $domain (which seems to be rather
stupid when I re-evaluate this a day later), and hoped there would be
a variable that would save my users from re-assembling their e-mail
address. But I figure that who can write a .forward file will be able
to do this.
Additionally, I was misled by the section on "String Expansion" which
lists some variable that are "most likely to be useful". I didn't see
that this was an incomplete list. Phil might want to include a
reference to section 33 giving the complete list of expansion
variables to keep stupid people like me from bothering the list ;)
