You send using some other MTA than exim, don't you?

You should use MX records instead of CNAME. Some (imho broken, others
say correct) MTAs rewrite the recipient host if it's a CNAME.

RFC 1123 and 2821 disagree at this point, 1123 forbids the use of CNAMEs
in email addresses, 2821 allows it. Since 2821 updates 1123 I consider
it authoritative.
