I'm running Exim on Solaris 8, and I haven't seen this problem.

The fact that two different packages are seeing it suggests that it is a
system problem. Exim calls the setsockopt() function to set the
SO_KEEPALIVE option on incoming sockets. Something is going wrong, but I
haven't a clue what the problem could be, I'm afraid.
