Why is this, by the way? Especially if you turn off DNS lookups locally, and
just concentrate on pushing mail out? Your ISP's mailserver would ideally be
local to you, network wise (and geographically as well) ...

That's different of course, assuming you have a static (or nearly static) IP
from mediaone.
