ok, the original question still stands. i managed to work that around,
though (in an ugly way, but still).
the errors in the files are that they have a dot at the beginning of
the file (in the message body). naturally exim treats these as
end-of-data, and barfs up on the subsequent lines (which are in fact
still parts of the body).
how does one resolve that issue ? (to be clear, i'm re-sending a whole
maildir mailbox, whith appropriate smtp commands prepended and
appended to the files).
for now, as i only have like 6 of these left, i'll edit them by hand,
but i'd like to know how to resolve that properly should i run into
this problem again.
