i think this is true for the ideal case, but think "acquisition". i've
been acquired (along with my employeer of the time) twice in the past
couple of years, and integration is always a bitch, with multiple
databases coexisting while the integration team figures out what the
hell to do with it all.

it's probably worthwhile to try and think up a good way to handle the
problem.
