And there's the crux of the matter. I have been running Linux for about
four years. I have installed it numerous times on numerous hosts at home
and my company, and have not yet (until now) found an MTA which will do
precisely what I want. But I, like millions of other people, don't want
to have to read the RFC, read the spec, and "a bit more" to simply be
able to run a local MTA properly on a local machine. Which is presumably
why there are lists like this-- to provide assistance to those who
_don't_ already know it all.
I brought this flaming on myself for being overly harsh and stubborn,
along with ignorant of the esoterica of email. For that, I apologize.
I have privately apologized to Philip and to Dave C. I think I've
apologized enough.
Thanks for your time, particularly to those of you who actually took the
time to publicly analyze my configuration on this list. Your help is
appreciated. Exim now appears to behave as I want, and my knowledge of
email has increased.
