I have spoken to my service provider and searched the archives in vain,
so I hope someone on the list has the answer.
I'm using exim-3.22 with FreeBSD 4.3-RELEASE over a dial-up connection
to varsity. I'm behind the varsity firewall and have to use
`smtphost.canterbury.ac.nz' to make a successful connection to
external hosts. This works well with most hosts but with some --- and
they are important to me --- it does not. The following logs should
show the problem:

And from then on a connection is always refused.

What adjustments should I make to the `configure' file to send all my
remote mail directly to `smtphost.canterbury.ac.nz'? I have tried the
following but without luck:
remote_smtp:
driver = smtp
hosts = smtphost.canterbury.ac.nz
fallback_hosts = smtphost.canterbury.ac.nz
smart_route:
driver = domainlist
transport = remote_smtp
route_list = * smtphost.canterbury.ac.nz bydns_a
smarthost:
driver = domainlist
transport = remote_smtp
route_list = "* smtphost.canterbury.ac.nz bydns_a"
Any help would be most gratefully received.
