No. If you define your own director, you can only specify one of the
_director_ drivers, which are aliasfile, forwardfile, smartuser, and
localuser. If you try to specify pipe as a director driver, you will get
a configuration error saying "unknown director".
"pipe" is a _transport_ driver, not a director driver.
The reason for having separate directors (and routers) and transports is
flexibility. You can configure multiple directors and routers to use the
same transport, or you can can configure a single director or router to
use different transports for different addresses.
One director => one transport (which seems to be what you require) is
just the simplest case.
