Well, since rfc2822 says:
local-part = dot-atom / quoted-string / obs-local-part
dot-atom = [CFWS] dot-atom-text [CFWS]
dot-atom-text = 1*atext *("." 1*atext)
obs-local-part = word *("." word)
word = atom / quoted-string
Or am I misreading it?
I asked because hotmail doesn't even try to deliver to an address like
j.k.@domain.example but fails with a status 5.1.3 (bad address syntax or something).
