I would think if a delivery attempt was made exims logs would most definatly report it.
Check /var/spool/exim/log/mainlog or rejectlog
or
/var/log/exim_mainlog or exim_rejectlog
If its a brand new install of Exim you may need to set the local_domains attribute like:
local_domains = yourmailserver.com : localhost
