Essentially what you are trying to do is perform TWO ldap lookups
in one query? Taking the results of the first query to seed the
second query, with the second query returning the emails?

From your original email, will the following work?

ldapm:///o=Vermont%20Department%20of%20Corrections,c=US?mail?sub?(memberOfGroup="cn=${$local_part},o=Vermont%20Department%20of%20Corrections,c=US")

I am assuming that the DN for the tree is the same as your search query.

If not, you will have to use the perl bindings in exim, and do your
query that way.
