We have had several long conversations here about the merits of NOT having
ident enabled on our mail server for security reasons. Yet, I know that if
we use sender verify, folks that use the sendmail MTA do an ident request
(port 113) which can be responded to with a reject, deny or providing the
service. Time delays here can cause temporary rejections.
Has anyone had security problems providing ident (actually in our case
pident-3.0.12) or are we being over concerned with any risk in providing the
service?
