I was right!
> LOOKUP_LIBS=-L/usr/local/lib -lmysqlclient -lz
Change this to
LOOKUP_LIBS=-L/usr/local/lib -R/usr/local/lib -lmysqlclient -lz
(This usually works for me. I've never really got this LD_LIBRARY_PATH
thing clear in my mind.)
