doc that will help me better understand exactly what I am looking at on
c034? As you can tell, I am a newbie concerning email on *nix and this is
my first foray into this area.

Check the exim FAQ - there are canned examples. Then google (or failing
that, google's cache) will turn up another few dozen links for you.
