easy on this. symlink creation might not be atomic on some systems
as, according to posix, symlinks are not required to be atomic at all.

however, at a quick glance, they are on linux, and i have no bsd kern
source at hand right now, but in any case, be careful.

hardlinks are the safest way to go.
