Actually, I'm thinking more of a runtime lookup, a la getpwuid(). I
realize getpwuid() and friends were ommitted in POSIX 1003.1, but its
included in the new draft, conditional on {_POSIX_SYSTEM_DATABASE}.
And how many systems don't actually support it? :-)
