Or better still (as there are other broken things there, such as a
devel-tree gcc) download and compile from source for everything you use to
any significant extent.
Stuff like the kernel, bind, apache (plus perl, php, mysql and such), exim ...
RPM db being broken or not, you can do your own version control. If rpms
are that necessary, rpm -ta works quite well :)
