Subject: [Exim] shell command string expansion
Hi,

I have been asked today if I could make exim do SMTP AUTH against a
courier-imap userdb database. I found out it would probably be easiest
to do if exim had a string expansion operator that expands to the
result of a given shell command such as in ${shell "courier-auth $USER
$PASS"}.

There surely is a reason why such an operator doesn't exist in exim 3,
and as usual I can't imagine that reason. Can anybody please tell me?

I'd hate to have to resort to the overhead of having embedded perl
compiled in just for this simple task...

Greetings
Marc
