[Exim] localhost port

I have had my configure file point to my ethernet card (only) for
local_interfaces= XX.XX.XX.XX

and this has been working fine for years.
Now I want to implement fetchmail, and fetchmail complained
"SMTP connect to localhost failed"

So I added :127.0.0.1 to my local_interfaces entry and fetchmail was happy
again.

I have never used 127.0.0.1 before and wonder if there is any concern
in adding it to my configure file?
