Its catchy to give the straight tip.
What your requirements (circumstantiate) ?
Do you only want two sets of users ?
I think in this case both (SQL and LDAP) are exaggeratedly.
Do you sure enough that you need a Query-Style lookup?
Ok,
I am using (Open)LDAP, cause I am familiar with it.
Principally, I think, it is a question of your personally preference.
If you are not know what a directory service is, I think you
better elect a SQL database, cause you will (maybe) get more help
if you run into difficulties.
On the other hand a directory service like LDAP
is very fit for doing fast lookups and organizing data in
a tree like (hierarchical) structur.
A SQL-Database you have to optimalize for this,
so you need to have a rule of thumb with SQL-Databases;
Do you have?
Maybe it It makes no odds if the SQL-Datbase slow down
the mail delivery process - its anyhow fast enough.
I can post my LDAP-Configuration files to the list,
but all the same you have to learn a lot, when chosing
LDAP Directory Service.
But I think the game is not worth the candle.

Oliver
