on linux/ia32 with glibc 2.[12] the problem is here. earlier this
morning i tried to find differences in printf()s on different
architectures (above said linux, some (2.7 or 2.8) solairs on sparc,
openbsd 2.6 and tru64 libcs (not within exim just a plain
printf("%p%s%s..")) and (in slightly varying ways) all of them blew
up, so i don't really know why you don't have it ;o

i tried exim 3.22 and 3.14 (linux/intel, gnu libc 2.1 and 2.2) and
openbsd 2.6/i386 (only 3.22) and all three exhbits the problem (so i
think anything in between as well, ccouldn't get my hands on an
earlier version, but i'm fairly sure it doesn't matter that much).

anyway i think it doesn't hurt fixing it as the possibility is
definitely there... it's just not that urgent :)
