Hello,
I am new to exim and mailservers.
I have build a simple configuration with exim (version 3.22) on a
mandrake-linux (version 8.0).
Now I try to set up the sender verify functionality of exim.
I want to reject messages which have no valid address in the sender field,
but if I switch "sender_verify" on, only addresses of my local domain "dvz"
will be rejected.
I see the following error message on the exim-monitor:
18:04:56 rejected MAIL FROM: <frodo.feinbein@???> \
H=mailserv2.dvz.fh-giessen.de [212.201.18.81]\
temporarily unable to verify sender address (try again later)
Addresses which are not local will be accepted.
I can use my own global mailadress (in the case of this message),
because the domain "mni" is not local to my mailserver (mailserv2).
The address "frodo.feinbein@???" allways fails, if
I have "sender_verify" set to "true".
If I put the address "ab@???" (for example) in the sender field
my mailserver accept this too, because "c" is no local domain
for my mailserver.
But there is no such domain on the internet!
I could not check the information in the envelope, cause
exim reject the message and write nothing into the spool directory.
Exim rejects only local mail addresses.
I have send this message through my mailserver.
This operates solely
"oliver.egginger@???"
contains no local domain in the global part.
I have no MX-Records for my domain ("dvz").
Could this cause the problem I have described?
But why does exim accept "ab@???" in the sender field?
Why he reject adresses of my local domain?
