I installed Amavis-perl-11 and NAI Virusscan on my exim 3.12 mailserver.
Built amavis from source with CPAN etc, generally following default options.
Amavis detected exim fine, I put the config details into my /etc/exim.conf
as per README.exim, and restarted xinetd.
Anyway, Amavis seemed to virtually hang the system as soon as a mail msg
hit. `ps auxw|grep amavis` showed over 50 processes running, and the 5
minute load average hit >40...
Anyway, I brought the system to single-user, removed the amavis stuff from
the config, and returned to normal operation...
Anybody else had this problem, or got much clue what caused it? Best guess I
have (given that I know v little about perl) is that Amavis spawned lots of
processes (presumably it is multithreaded?), but each was a complete copy of
amavis (5meg of ram etc)....
Logs etc on request...
System info: x86, 128mb ram, Debian 2.2r3 + storm enhancements, openwall
etc, exim 3.12, amavis-perl-11, perl, CPAN etc latest stable...
