This doesn't look right. However, try using the 'no_multi_domain' option
with the transport:

driver = smtp
hosts = "${lookup {${local_part}@${domain}} dbm \
{/etc/exim/relay.db} {$value} }"
gethostbyname = true
no_multi_domain
