Yes. Relay checking happens very earily (as it should), while rewriting
only occurs well after the DATA has been received. Furthermore rewriting
generally just rewrites headers anyway, so wouldn't be relevant anyway.

What you need is

relay_domains = *.domain.com

Look at the examples of relay_domains in the documentation.
