Hello,
I noticed on the squid (web cache) mailing list recently than people had
been having some substantial (?) performance improvement by using the reiser
file system (ReiserFS) available with the linux 2.4 kernels. My own thoughts
were that reiserFS was a logging file system, but I gather it also provides
an improvement because it is geared towards many small files within a large
directory.
Since Exim, probably at the larger sites, may also have many small files
within a directory, I was wondering if anyone had considered using resierFS
with exim? Whilst it is not applicable at our site - we're not *that* large
and use Sun/Solaris boxes - I thought it may be worth consideration by
others.
There was also mention of 'fastfs', for those people using Sun/Solaris, as
being faster than ufs. I have not heard of this, but will look into it
further - myself and a colleague have just been given responsibility for the
Uni web and web cache servers!
Regards,
John.
