The planning document already proposes the abolition of the search_type
option in the two drivers where it currently appears.
However, this will still leave two formats for lookups:
(1) When the lookup is forming a list, in the format you quoted, but
more general (the argument isn't always a file; it can be a database
query).
(2) When the lookup is part of a string expansion, that is, the
${lookup{lsearch}{/file}{$value}{...}}
syntax.
