Ouch - you touched a nerve there - we have a very similar setup (which is a
frontend for a lotus notes network), with all the people bent on sending
massive M$ office and other attachments to each other.

And sometimes, if this lockfile goes (like when the download is broken in the
middle by a slow network connection - say over a dialup for our roaming
users), the user's mailbox goes as well.
Simple cure - ditch qpopper and switch to gnu-pop3d <
