| The problem is with connecting to exim from some hosts. It takes a
| (relatively) long time between

| - the connection is accepted (e.g. telnet skynet.skynet.com.pl smtp says
| Connected to skynet.skynet.com.pl. Escape character is '^]'.)

| and

| - the initial smtp 220 banner is displayed.

Look into the rfc1413_query_timeout option:
rfc1413_query_timeout option
Option: rfc1413_query_timeout
Type: time
Default: 30s
This sets the timeout on RFC 1413 identification calls. If it is set to
zero, no RFC 1413 calls are ever made.
Maybe set it down to 5 or 10 seconds...
