i recently started using demime (
http://scifi.squawk.com/demime.html) to
gut the mime attachments before sending messages on to majordomo on my
site; after a some initial frustration, i got it working and it seems to be
soldiering on quite reliably. it's a perl script, which is intended to be
used with a message on stdin and the demimed version on stdout.
