Hmm, didn't actually 'see' the newline :-) We haven't had this
particular problem, but we did have a problem where a newline was put into a
Subject: header. The solution it seemed, well it worked anyway, was to use
$quote. We use:

  subject = "${if def:h_Subject: {Re: ${quote:$h_Subject:}} {I am on
            vacation}}"


(That's all on one line.)
