Who will be the first to say this? 8-)

You have got a "real" sendmail in place somewhere -- /usr/lib or
/usr/sbin probably, depending on your OS. Remove it and replace it
with a symlink to your Exim binary. If you are using FreeBSD or
anything like it, you may need to check /etc/mail/mailer.conf as well,
and replace /usr/sbin/mailwrapper with a symlink to Exim.
