You're assuming that MDs aren't stupid. In my personal experience, it's the MD
who thinks it's OK to send out a 20Mb Word doc to all-staff@??? which
can cause problems when he hasn't given you the money to spend on servers, so
it's going to 150 people on a P-II which is shared by another 5,000 customers.
Generally, I assume (and it's a very safe assumption) that the most stupid and
technically unsavvy person in the entire company, if not within 30 miles radius
generally is your MD. Trust me. :-)

Friendly messages don't encourage this replying to daemons at all - the fact
that it is not clear that mail to this address is not going to be read does. It
should be made perfectly clear who you should contact if you have any
questions, and not just assume that if you say it's automatically generated
that people are not going to respond.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again - you need to TELL PEOPLE who to
contact. That's it.
