I know it is invidious but there are an increasing number of instances where
'snooping' or at least recording of what goes thru the company email system
is required whether you or I like it or not.
For example, when you see E&OE on the bottom of insurance policies, most
people don't realise that that is actually a trademark for the company that
provides "errors and omissions" insurance. Technically you shouldn't
stick their trademark on your stationery without their permission (and a
premium..) - but I digress.
The E&OE people are now starting to insist that all emails to and from their
clients are recorded so that, in the event of claim, that evidence is
available.
Another example where it has proved useful is during the recent antitrust
case against Microsoft and and and....
But that is _recording_, archiving if you will, not snooping and I don't have
any objection to it provided that information is stored and used responsibly.
