[Exim] mailman problems

System is FreeBSD 4.0-STABLE

I compiled mailman with
./configure --with-mail-gid=exim --with-cgi-gid=exim
and
make DIRSETGID=: install

tray# bin/check_perms
No problems found

created the test-list and it seemed to be fine, modified exim as it says on
the
web page but every time I send a subscribe request I get:

Child process of list_request_transport transport returned 2 from command:
/home/mailman/mail/wrapper

Nothing I do seems to help this.
