Hi,

I was wondering if anyone had encountered this one before, or whether I'll
have to resolve it myself.

for starters:
uname -a
Linux <hostname> 2.0.36 #1 Tue Oct 13 22:17:11 EDT 1998 i686 unknown

exim -bV
Exim version 3.03 #2 built 11-Nov-1999 14:02:21

The error in the panic log:
...
...
2000-01-21 16:43:34 12Bh9q-0001OI-00 string_sprintf expansion was longer than
8192

OK. A quick look at the source shows that the string_sprintf function in
src/string.c
is trying to write too much in the call to string_vformat.

string_sprintf is called from many different places.

My big problem is that I can't see what is causing problems in terms of the
mail, so I can't replicate it on a non-live server (plus it is only occuring
on one of 3 identical servers).

Once the error starts, it causes delivery deferment to pretty much everything
- all the same domain, as it is a mail hub (or maybe as a result of delivery
deferment, I suppose).

The spool fills for approx 15 minutes (retry time) the the whole lot clears
when I get a queue run. It then goes for a number of hours before it does it
again.

Any pointers?
Thanks for your time.

Lewis
