Another way is to have your servers have their own IPs addresses - tied to
the physical hardware. Then for each service have an IP address that you
alias onto the box that you want to provide that service

ifconfig hme0:<x> <ip> up

type stuff on Solaris.

Then, if you need to move a service you just shift the 'service' ip
address - and all you need to worry about is the updating of the ARP
tables on your local network - typically a lot quicker than the DNS..
